Artificial intelligence used to be a far-away concept written about in the sci-fi genre. Today, AI is a term that is becoming more and more commonplace as our own homes and cars become smarter. The concept of a machine acting humanlike is less of a science fiction and more of a fact. AI itself encompasses a few disciplines, such as robotics, augmented vision, and natural language processing. The influence of AI technology can be seen in sports, healthcare, manufacturing, shopping, transportation, education, communication, media, and finance.There are very few industries today that are untouched by artificial intelligence.
The engineering sector is affected when we design and manufacture robots that can then be used to perform extremely difficult tasks if done by humans. Highly repetitive and tedious tasks can also be automated by the use of robots who have been programmed with specialized AI software.

AI still has a way to go before it can reach the level of a human, but it is already being utilized for speech recognition, machine translation, spam detection, and predictive typing, to name a few areas.
In the world of transportation, autonomous vehicles have already been greatly impacted by AI. Cars of the future will be able to make use of a multitude of sensors in order to get a 360° view of its surroundings, keeping the driver safer and making parallel parking difficulties a thing of the past. It will also be able to alert drivers about lane crossovers. By providing real-time traffic updates, drivers will have options to take efficient detours, which will also free up trouble spots on the roads.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a way of describing all of the interconnected devices around the world. Once any of these connected devices are merged with sensors, it gives them the ability to input data, understand it, find patterns, and make predictions. They can then communicate without the need for human interaction. One example would be a smart refrigerator that knows when it’s time to order more groceries.
